A Weinberg senior was arrested on campus Friday and charged with dealing and possessing cocaine.
Peter R. Nielsen, 22, was arrested on the 2300 block of Campus Drive on Friday evening and charged with two felonies for dealing and possessing a controlled substance said Sgt. Steven Stoeckl of University Police. Police also seized other drugs and sent them to the Illinois state crime lab for analysis.
In connection with the drug deal, Nielsen was charged with a Class 1 felony of delivering one to 15 grams of cocaine. The offense is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Police also confiscated more cocaine from Nielsen, which resulted in a Class 4 felony of possession of less than 15 grams of cocaine, Stoeckl said.
The university likely will consider disciplinary action after Nielsen appears in court, said Alan Cubbage, vice president of university relations.
“In a situation such as this, the student involved would face appropriate university action, but that generally happens after the criminal case is resolved,” Cubbage said.
