Northwestern officials have planned a Friday memorial service in honor of Music junior Joseph Doyle, who was found dead in his Psi Kappa Phi fraternity house on Thursday.
The service for Doyle, 22, will take place at 3 p.m. at the Alice Millar Chapel, officials said. Doyle’s cause of death remains unknown.
Doyle’s family arrived in Evanston today and will attend the service, said University Chaplain Timothy Stevens. Doyle was buried Wednesday in Massachusetts, his home state.
Stevens said he met with some of Doyle’s Psi Phi fraternity brothers Wednesday to help plan the service.
“We want to have a service where his friends, people who knew him and others who were affected by his death could come together and have some closure,” Stevens said. “This is something his parents requested.”
Stevens also said that a saxophone ensemble from the School of Music will play at the service. A saxophone player since the sixth grade, Doyle studied with Music Performance Studies Prof. Fred Hemke before deciding to change to a composition concentration last year.
Music Dean Bernard Dobroski said he will attend the service and that a faculty member from the school may speak.
Counseling and Psychological Services staffers also have tried to reach out to students who knew Doyle, said John Dunkle, CAPS’ associate director.
“We’ve offered them our walk-in hours and any other interventions that they would want,” Dunkle said.
CAPS is open for appointments from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with walk-in hours from noon to 2 p.m. and a 24 crisis line at 847-491-8100.
