If Northwestern’s lacrosse players have any envy of Ivy League schools, this weekend could be their chance to get revenge.
The Wildcats start their regular season Saturday against Brown and follow that up by taking on Harvard on Sunday.
Both games will be played at Harvard’s Jordan Turf Field because Brown’s campus is covered in snow.
The team is coming off an impressive preseason that included exhibition victories over No. 2 Duke and No. 10 North Carolina two weeks ago. But Amonte-Hiller said her players wouldn’t be thinking about the wins this weekend.
“We take it game by game,” Amonte-Hiller said. “We forget about the past and don’t look forward to the future, we just focus on where we are at specific times. That’s the key to our success.”
The Cats are looking to fill the scoring hole left by Sarah Albrecht. The junior led the team in scoring last year, but tore her anterior cruciate ligament in the offseason and will be out all year.
In the preseason games, NU was led in scoring by freshman Lynda McCandlish and sophomore Courtney Flynn.
“Although it’s unfortunate that Sarah’s going to be out, we’ll be looking to different people that we may not have looked to before,” Amonte-Hiller said.
