A woman seen Friday wandering through Annenberg Hall might be the same person who has been arrested multiple times for trespassing on the Evanston Campus, police said.
At about 7 p.m. Friday, police received a call from an NU staff member who said she saw a woman walking through the halls at Annenberg, 2120 Campus Dr., and opening up every closet she passed, said Lt. Nick Parashis of University Police.
By the time police arrived, the woman was gone.
The woman’s description matched that of the serial trespasser whose name Parashis would not disclose since she was not arrested in this case or spotted by police at the scene.
Parashis described the suspect as a 24-year-old, 5-foot-9 black woman, weighing about 130 pounds, with black hair.
Ann McKenna, an assistant professor in the School of Education and Social Policy, said she saw the woman going through closets in the hallway but did not see her take anything.
She also said she recognized the woman from a picture she had been given by her department. McKenna was told to call police if she ever saw the woman.
Parashis said McKenna’s call came too late to make an arrest.
“Unfortunately, the person who called us called on the way home instead of as she was going to her car,” Parashis said. He said police often have trouble catching trespassers for that reason.
But McKenna said she called police from her cell phone on the way to her car. She said she did not attempt to talk to or stop the woman.
“Didn’t seem like that’s what I was supposed to do,” she said.
