The Northwestern women’s cross country team travels to Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday for the Pre-National Invitational. The race will be the last for the Wildcats before the Big Ten Championships on Nov. 3 in West Lafayette, Ind.
NU finished sixth out of 24 teams last Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. No. 2 Stanford dominated the race, winning with 21 points. Wisconsin and Notre Dame rounded out the top three finishers in the Invitational.
The Cats did place ahead of Big Ten teams Purdue, Illinois and Iowa.
Senior Rachel Evjen, who has been one of the Cats’ top finishers, came in first for NU, placing 16th overall with a time of 18:02 on the 5-kilometer course.
Sophomore Diana Hossfeld and senior Nicole Kuznia also put up points for the Cats, finishing 28th at 18:18 and 31st at 18:22. Two other members of the team placed in the Invitational. Senior Laura Evans finished in 18:30 and senior Karen Rogers finished in 18:52.
While the top NU runners were racing in South Bend, the rest of the team ran in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago on Saturday.
Eleven Cats made the short trip to Montrose Beach for the Invitational, which was won by Missouri. Kalysta Harmon was the top finisher for the team, coming in 43rd at 19:07.
