Dianna Di Iorio and Elizabeth Glasgow, both members of this year’s Suitcase Party executive board, were named co-chairwomen for the 2003 event on Monday night.
Three people applied for the two positions, which carry the responsibility of appointing the remainder of the executive board.
Di Iorio, a Weinberg sophomore, served as treasurer for Suitcase Party 2002 and was a member of the corporate committee for the 2001 party.
Di Iorio has been involved with the philanthropy since her freshman year, and said she sought to expand her leadership role for the coming year.
“Suitcase Party is a great way to get involved because you can reach out to students on campus and people in surrounding communities,” Di Iorio said. “We’re going to try to reach out to our charity (next year) not just monetarily, but also with more hands-on philanthropic events.”
Glasgow, a Weinberg junior, led the new community events committee this year and served on the executive board of the 2001 Suitcase Party.
Glasgow’s interest in the group dates back to her stint as a prospective student. Attending Day at NU the weekend before Suitcase Party, she marveled at a campus plastered with fliers for the event.
“(Suitcase Party) brought me to Northwestern,” Glasgow said. “I’d like to see the relationship we have with the campus (as a whole) change. Students are our largest supporters, but it has been on an individual level.”
Glasgow said she would like to foster a relationship with dorms, student groups and Greek houses – all of which benefit Dance Marathon.
This year’s Suitcase Party raised $32,148 to benefit Chicago-based charity The Children’s Place, which helps poor children with HIV/AIDS.
Di Iorio said next year’s charity will be announced at the end of this month.
