The Northwestern women’s golf team used a strong second-round showing to finish seventh at the “Mo”morial Tournament at Briarcrest Country Club in Bryan, Texas, Monday and Tuesday.
After the first day of competition, No. 26 NU was tied for 11th at 44-over 332. But the Wildcats had the fourth-best team score (315) of the second round Tuesday.
Cats sophomore Hana Kim tied for eighth individually, shooting a two-round total of 11-over 155. Her younger sister Ina, an NU freshman, finished tied for 25th with a 17-over 161. Junior Elizabeth Burden and senior Emily Gilley finished in 31st and 63rd for NU, while sophomore Lauren Grzebien closed out the Cats’ scoring with a 28-over 172, good for 77th place.
Ina Kim was the only NU golfer who didn’t improve her score the second day. She shot 80 on Monday and 81 on Tuesday.
The Big Ten took four of the top seven spots, as Ohio State placed first, Michigan State second and Indiana sixth. The Buckeyes notched a team score of 40-over 616, 31 strokes ahead of the Cats.
