Three Honda Civics were burglarized early this week and police have arrested two men in connection with one of the break-ins, according to police reports.
Police apprehended two men in connection with the break-in of a Honda Civic on the 1500 block of Madison Place late Tuesday night.
According to police reports, officers observed a man carrying a large wooden speaker. Another man was with him. The men fled the scene when officers approached.
After a short chase the officers apprehended and arrested the two men, Bashamba Williams of Evanston and Jonathan Romero, 21, of Chicago.
The men gained entry to a black 1991 Honda Civic with a key that police found on Williams, according to police reports.
Williams, who was carrying the speaker, was charged with burglary. Romero was charged with criminal trespassing.
In a separate incident, 15 CDs, a pair of Oakley sunglasses, a suit and a cellular phone charger were taken from another Honda Civic on the 700 block of Judson Avenue Monday. night or Tuesday morning.
A green 1997 Civic on the 1000 block of Hinman Avenue also was broken into with a tool that damaged its strip molding during the same overnight period, according to police reports.
A wrapped gift valued at $22 was taken.
Police are still investigating the break-ins.
Williams is scheduled to appear Nov. 2 and Romero is scheduled to appear Nov. 8 at Circuit Court in Skokie.
Cmdr. Michael Perry of the Evanston Police Department said residents can prevent car burglaries by hiding or removing items that could attract attention to their cars.
