Evanston Library will hold a spring book sale featuring a wide selection of classic literature and mystery, history, non-fiction, philosophy, travel, cooking and children’s books.
The sale begins Thursday with a preview for members of the Evanston Library Friends at 1 p.m. It will open to the public at 6 p.m. in the Ruth S. Burkhead Volunteer and Book Sale Room.
The sale lasts until Sunday with operating hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Books will be sold at half price on the last day of the sale from noon until close.
Memberships in the Evanston Library Friends will be on sale at the door during Thursday’s preview for $15.
Proceeds will benefit the Evanston Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
Kate Todd, the library’s executive secretary, said buying more audio books, DVDs and audio equipment is a priority for the library, which relies on the support of community members.
“We’re a civically supported agency, but our tax base doesn’t have the same sort of real estate revenue of a Schaumburg or Skokie,” she said. “That’s why the extra effort and support of volunteers and residents make a big difference.”
