The Evanston Township High School boys swimming team won the state championship Saturday, its first since 1960.
The Wildkits took three events and placed second in two others in New Trier’s pool, topping second-place St. Charles East by 29 team points.
Senior Terry Silkaitis led the way, defending his title in the 200-yard freestyle and finishing second in the 100 butterfly. His time of 1:38.36 in the 200 free was more than two seconds faster than his title-winning time last year.
ETHS also got help from its relays, which placed first in the 50 and 100 free races. The 100 relay team finished in 3:06.93, the fourth-fasted championship time in state history.
