Poi Dog Pondering and Grammy-nominated Liquid Soul will be performing a free concert Tuesday night at Cahn Auditorium to support a voter registration drive for Evanston’s April 3 municipal elections.
Tickets for the concert, which is co-sponsored by Associated Student Government and A&O Productions, are free with a WildCARD today and Tuesday at Norris University Center’s box office or at Cahn before the concert.
ASG President Adam Humann said Northwestern students who are deputized to register voters for the election will be in the entrance of Cahn when doors open at 6:30 p.m. The last day to register for elections is March 6.
“I hope students take advantage of one of the last opportunities they’ll have to register and make the student voice heard in the elections,” said Humann, a Weinberg senior.
Humann said he hopes the event, which is connected with MTV’s “Rock the Vote,” will attract more than the 100 students who came to the “Rock the Vote” concert Oct. 26 in Patten Gymnasium.
“It will be kind of like ‘Rock the Vote,’ but with good bands,” Humann said.
Poi Dog Pondering has played a mixture of rock, funk and soul since Hawaiian lead singer Frank Orrall founded the band in 1986. They moved to Chicago in 1992, and A&O Director Molly Allen said they played at NU about eight years ago.
“(Poi Dog Pondering) are doing this as a thank you to Northwestern because they enjoyed playing here so much,” said Allen, a Speech senior.
Liquid Soul is a Chicago-based acid-jazz band. Their album “Here’s the Deal” was nominated for a 2001 Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year.
