Twelve of Northwestern’s 19 varsity sports received perfect scores in the NCAA’s most recent Academic Progress Rate report, setting a school record.

Men’s tennis, wrestling, women’s golf, volleyball, women’s tennis, women’s swimming and diving, women’s soccer, cross country, softball, field hockey, men’s golf and baseball all had scores of 1000, the highest possible mark, and NU’s other programs were not far behind.

Lacrosse received a 998, men’s swimming and diving and men’s soccer a 997, women’s basketball a 996, fencing a 994 and football a 992.

Men’s basketball was the lowest rated among NU sports with a 974, but still was 13 points above the NCAA average for men’s basketball.

The Wildcats improved from a year ago, when just 10 programs received perfect scores. Football improved its scored by one point from last year, while men’s basketball dropped six points.

APR is an aggregate measure of each team’s ability to maintain the eligibility of its athletes and successfully retain and graduate them over their careers. A score is calculated for each Division I program based on its performance over the previous four years. Teams below a threshold score of 930 are prohibited from participating in postseason play the following year.

Last week, the athletic department announced NU was the Football Bowl Subdivision school with the highest percentage of programs to receive APR public recognition awards for placing among the top 10 percent of teams in their respective sports, with 15 of the 19 varsity teams earning the honor.
