Officers found a cash register missing from a gas station after its window was broken by a brick in west Evanston on Monday morning.

A patrol officer observed a broken window at the Road Ready in the 2400 block of Dempster Street and reported it to Evanston Police Department headquarters. Responding officers observed the brick lying inside the gas station and the cash register missing, said Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew.

EPD was unable to immediately contact someone from the gas station. Officers estimated that the burglary must have occurred between 11 p.m. Sunday and 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Glew said police are investigating the burglary alongside two other reports of theft in Skokie in the same time window. Those instances have suspect descriptions.

There are no suspects.

Evanston man arrested in connection with assault

Police arrested a 35-year-old Evanston man Sunday at a Starbucks in south Evanston after he threatened to shoot an employee.

EPD responded to reports from a Starbucks employee at the store, 519 Main St., that a man was “acting erratically” and refusing to leave around 11:30 a.m. The employee said the Evanston man threatened to “shoot him in the back of the head,” Glew said.

Officers took the man into custody on the scene after the employee asked to press charges.

The man was told during a different incident that could not enter the Starbucks. Police charged the man with trespassing and assault.
