A 29-year-old Skokie man was arrested Monday in west Evanston in connection with driving under the influence.

Officers observed a vehicle driving with tinted windows near the intersection of Emerson Street and Dodge Avenue, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

The man was stopped by officers who smelled burned marijuana when the car door was opened, Dugan said. The man’s eyes were bloodshot and officers found a hand-rolled cigar with suspected marijuana in the car’s ashtray.

After failing a standard field sobriety test, the man was taken to the police station and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, as well as possession of fewer than 10 grams of marijuana, Dugan said. He was also cited for driving with illegal window tints.

Money, cigarettes stolen from car in south Evanston

Three packs of cigarettes and $80 in cash were stolen from a woman’s car in south Evanston Monday evening.

The woman, an Evanston resident, noticed her car — parked in the 700 block of Dobson Street — had its driver side rear window broken with a brick, Dugan said.

The woman found her purse in an open field just south of the incident, Dugan said, and everything was accounted for except the cash and cigarettes.

Dugan said there are no known suspects.
