An Evanston man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a forgery incident that was originally reported on Aug. 25 in south Evanston.

The man came in to a check cashing facility in the 1800 block of Dempster Street on Aug. 18 with a check that was supposedly issued by a Morton Grove healthcare company, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. After the $764.81 check was cashed, the facility was notified by the bank that the check was fraudulent and the account number did not exist.

The healthcare company also confirmed that it did not issue the check, Dugan said.

The man was located Tuesday and charged with forgery, a felony.

Wadsworth man arrested in connection with DUI

A Wadsworth resident was arrested in connection with multiple traffic offenses near downtown Evanston early Wednesday morning.

Officers first observed the vehicle in the 900 block of Chicago Avenue driving quickly and crossing over the centerline, Dugan said. He added that the vehicle also made a left turn from the center lane.

Even after officers activated their sirens, the vehicle did not pull over for several blocks, Dugan said. It eventually stopped in the 800 block of Dempster Street. Dugan said officers noted the man had bloodshot, watery eyes, the scent of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech.

After completing a sobriety test, the man was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and improper turning, Dugan said.
