Evanston announced it would hire Ross Barney Architects to lead the concept and design planning for the Howard Street Theater.

The company was chosen from 12 applicants to design the theater, to be located at 717-723 Howard St., and is planned for 150-200 seats. The theater will be the home of Strawdog Theatre Company, a Chicago-based group.

Ross Barney Architects was chosen because of its involvement in other Evanston projects, such as the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.

“I am thrilled that the city will work with Ross Barney Architects to initiate the plan and initial design of this special theater,” said Ald. Ann Rainey (8th) in a press release.
