A 16-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday in connection with shooting a man in central Evanston.

A 22-year-old man reported to police that he was shot Wednesday at about 4 p.m. in the 1700 block of Emerson Street, sustaining an injury that was not life-threatening. The Skokie resident said he had gotten out of his car when a man walking westbound pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at him. The Skokie resident was struck once in the thigh and was driven by an acquaintance to Evanston Hospital to treat the wound.

Police later stopped two teenage boys in the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue, recovering a .380 caliber Kel-Tec handgun from one of them.

The teenager who possessed the handgun was charged with four felonies, including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm by a street gang member. He was also charged with a misdemeanor for reckless conduct. Police took the teenager to Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.

The other boy was released without charges.
