Evanston man arrested in connection with retail theft

A 24-year-old Evanston man was arrested in connection with retail theft Wednesday evening, police said.

A security guard at Jewel-Osco, 2485 Howard St., said he saw the man enter the store and conceal a bottle of Jack Daniels in his coat before taking food items from a different shelf, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The value of the items was about $40, Dugan added.

The man was charged with misdemeanor retail theft and is scheduled to appear in court June 29, police said.

Door broken in Evanston home

Someone broke the glass on a door of a south Evanston home during the day Wednesday, police said.

The owner of the home, a 75-year-old Evanston woman, said someone broke the glass on the outer part of her door, Dugan said.

There were no signs of forced entry to the inner door of the house in the 1500 block of South Boulevard, and no suspects have been identified, Dugan added.
