Jogger hit by car on Northwestern campus

A jogger was hit by a car on Northwestern’s campus Monday night, police said.

The 19-year-old Evanston woman was running eastbound on Noyes Street, and while crossing Sheridan Road a vehicle coming southbound on Sheridan struck her at about 9:44 p.m.

The jogger was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said he did not know if she is an NU student.

The woman driving the car, a Buick SUV, is a 26-year-old Arkansas resident, Dugan said.

The driver was given a distracted driving citation, Dugan said. The woman said she looked at her phone before hitting the pedestrian, he added.

Dugan called the woman’s attention to her phone a “contributing factor” to the incident, but the case is still under investigation as detectives review traffic footage and talk to eyewitnesses.
