Updated: Motorcyclists charged with DUI after crash

Updated, 9:20 a.m. Tuesday:
Felony DUI charges were approved for both motorcyclists involved in Saturday’s crash, police said Monday.
Travis Johnson of the 1700 block of Grey Avenue and Daniel Smith of Skokie were arrested in connection with several DUI charges.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court next week.

Evanston man critically injured after motorcycle accident
Two motorcyclists sustained injuries after colliding Saturday evening on Emerson Street, police said.
An Evanston man remains in critical condition after he crashed into another motorcyclist in west Evanston. The Evanston man, 30, accelerated past a car using the bike lane before colliding with the second motorcyclist near the intersection of Hartrey Avenue and Emerson Street. Both riders were ejected from their motorcycles. Police responded to the accident at about 8:40 p.m. and transported the men to Evanston Hospital.
The second rider, a 57-year-old Skokie man, was wearing a helmet during the collision and sustained facial injuries and a cervical fracture. The Evanston man was not wearing a helmet and is in critical condition for facial fractures and brain bleeding. Both are expected to recover, police said.
