An Evanston man was shot in the legs several times Monday evening in the 1700 block of Payne Street, police said.

Officers responded after they heard shots fired at about 7:15 p.m., where they located the man who had been shot in a car near the intersection of Greenbay Road and Lincoln Street, police said.

Police said the man, 39, was transported to Evanston Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Two people were detained for questioning after the incident but have since been released, police said. Detectives are investigating the shooting but the victim is not cooperating, police said.
