Young girl hit by car near Metra station

A 12-year-old girl was hit by a car while crossing the street Tuesday afternoon near the Central Street Metra station, according to police.

The girl was walking her bike east on a side walk on Central Street when she was struck by the vehicle, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said. The car was turning left off Central Street on to Green Bay Road.

The girl was taken to Evanston Hospital with nonfatal injuries. She may have broken her arm, Parrott said.

The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
