More than 100 family members and friends gathered Friday morning to mourn Sem Adrien, an Evanston man who was killed earlier this month in Kansas.
The funeral service at First Evangelical Haitian Baptist Church, 1309 Elmwood Ave., featured speeches by pastor Daniel Dumont, along with a number of musical selections and mourning prayers, according to the program.
Adrien, a 2005 graduate of Evanston Township High School, was fatally shot Sept. 9 in Hutchinson, Kan., where he had been working for the state fair. He originally went to Kansas to help rebuild in the aftermath of a small tornado.
Michael Briscoe, 35, has been charged with killing Adrien, 26. The Hutchinson man knew Adrien, and the two men had a disagreement before the fatal shooting, according to prosecutors.
Earlier this month, Adrien’s brother, Duckens Adrien, described him as “outgoing and ambitious” with a talent for soccer and an interest in youth education.
“The power of potential — that describes him to a T,” Duckens Adrien said.
