Trader Joe’s new location in Evanston will open Friday morning with a tropical-themed celebration.
The grocery store, 1211 Chicago Ave., is scheduled to hold a lei-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m., according to the Monrovia, Calif.-based chain. Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and Eugene Sunshine, Northwestern senior vice president for business and finance, will join the location’s crew for the event.
The store will also mark its opening Friday with face painting, music, giveaways and food demonstrations.
The chain says the 13,000-square-foot store features “local flare” in addition to Trader Joe’s usual furnishings, including hand-painted murals of the NU campus and city landmarks.
Trader Joe’s will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
