Crossing guard changes began Monday at a crosswalk used by students attending three different Evanston schools after a city study found more children were crossing an uncontrolled intersection than the one with a crossing guard.
Parents and businesses raised concerns about students crossing at Central Street and Broadway Avenue en route to Haven Middle School, Kingsley Elementary School and St. Athanasius School, according to a city news release.
After the study, which found that students were using the designated school crossing at Central Street and Green Bay Road, the crossing guard in that area will move to the crossing at Central Street and Broadway Avenue.
This week, both intersections will have a crossing guard in advance of the complete switch on Jan. 14.
