This summer, the Chicago Transit Authority Board approved plans to replace the Purple Line viaducts at Grove, Dempster and Greenleaf Streets. The contract also allows for repair of retaining walls along Chicago Avenue, according to a news release by the City of Evanston.
It now appears work on the retaining wall along the Chicago Ave. CTA tracks will not be completed by Oct. 23, the date originally scheduled.
Contractors discovered the retaining wall had deteriorated beyond expectations.
They have therefore extended the deadline for repair work from Madison Street to South Boulevard to Nov. 11.
As a result of this construction, the outer southbound lane of Chicago Ave. will be closed throughout the duration of the project.
