A Northwestern student walking a block from campus Thursday night was the victim of battery, according to a security alert released hours after the incident.
The incident, which took place at approximately 7:15 p.m., occurred on the 2200 block of Orrington Avenue, according to the alert. The Evanston Police Department is investigating.
The victim was walking south on Orrington when one of two men walking by turned around rapidly, grabbed her and began punching her. After fighting off the offender and knocking him to the ground, the student watched the two men walk northbound on Orrington.
She declined medical treatment, according to the report.
The suspect was described as a 5-foot-8 black male between the ages of 18 and 25 and weighing 160-170 pounds. He was apparently wearing a white winter hat and a cream-colored coat with a gray stripe. He was accompanied by a 5-foot-7, 18- to 25-year-old black man wearing a dark coat and blue jeans and weighing about 150 pounds.
In the alert, University Police advised all students to be cautious when walking on and off campus and to use shuttles and SafeRide services.
The report asked anyone with further information on the attack to contact EPD.
