After 30 days of living in the Museum of Science and Industry, NU alumna Kate McGroarty, Communication ’08, will come back to the real world today.
McGroarty kept herself very busy during her time in MSI. On day 28 alone, she observed chicks hatching, learned about the science of severe weather through interactive exhibits, helped teach kids in MSI’s science club and conducted experiments of her own in the MSI teacher training workshop.
She was also sure to explore the highlights of the museum, such as the “Fairy Castle,” which is a model built during the Great Depression that traveled around the country and was used to raise money for charity.
In a blog on MSI’s website, McGroarty wrote, “The ‘Fairy Castle’ is amazingly detailed and rich with history, fairy tales and tiny innovations.”
Throughout the 30-day period, she blogged and tweeted frequently.
Her Twitter posts ranged from answering questions about her day-to-day life in the museum to explaining the physics behind monster trucks to shout-outs to the NU football team.
In a Twitter post on Wednesday evening, McGroarty wrote, “packing up most of my things tonight so I can roam around to my heart’s content tomorrow night. It is a strange, strange feeling…”
