An unknown man stole a purple jacket from The North Face on Saturday.
An employee of The North Face, 1600 Sherman Ave., told police a man stole a purple jacket worth about $250, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said. The man came into the store with a woman, and he walked out with the jacket as the woman paid for her merchandise.
Although no one saw the man take the jacket, a manager heard the security alarm go off as the man left the store, Guenther said. The manager checked security tapes and observed the theft, he said.
Employees described the man as Hispanic, about 25 years old, 150 pounds and 5 feet 5 inches tall. He had long, curly brown hair in a ponytail and wore a red hooded sweatshirt, gray ball cap and blue jeans, Guenther said.
Police are following up on the case using credit card information from the woman who accompanied the man into the store.
