Though Longchamp bags, leggings and UGGs might dominate Northwestern fashion, Weinberg sophomore Jamie Hamersmith prefers clothes from thrift stores and flea markets. “They are cheap, and you can buy a lot more clothes that way,” Hamersmith says. “I can buy five things for $20 instead of $100 for one.” Whether she is at a vintage store in Pilsen, a secondhand store in Rogers Park or antique stores in Evanston, Hamersmith looks for unique pieces, not just items that are trendy. “Instead of jeans from Urban Outfitters, I will just buy a pair of old jeans and cut them into shorts, and they look cooler anyway,” Hamersmith says. Basically, she dresses a lot cooler than you.
