Northwestern psychology Prof. Alice Eagly has been awarded the Gold Medal Award from the American Psychological Association honoring life achievement in social psychology.
In addition to a gold medal, the award includes a free trip to the association’s annual convention and $2,000 donated in her name to the charity of her choice.
Much of Eagly’s published research is based on studying attitudes, and her work also focuses on gender. Her latest book is “Through the Labyrinth: The Truth About How Women Become Leaders.” Eagly is chairwoman of NU’s psychology department.
In the past, Eagly earned the Interamerican Psychologist Award, the Carolyn Wood Sherif Award for her work concerning the psychology of women and the Distinguished Scientist Award of the Society of Experimental Social Psychology. She has also held the post of president of the Midwestern Psychological Association.
