Top Ten Sports Stories 2006-2007

#1: Women’s Lacrosse achieves 3-peat.After losing a double-overtime heartbreaker to start their season, some wondered if the Wildcats would see the same domination as years’ past. NU went on to win their final 15 regular season games, led by Communication ’07 Kristen Kjellman. They defeated Holy Cross, Syracuse, and Penn on the way to the championship. After giving up their 6-goal lead against Virginia in the final, Katrina Dowd scored the clinching goal and, with great saves by goalie Morgan Lathrop, the Wildcats completed the 3-peat. Most of the team will return for 2008, including Hannah Nielson who recorded an NCAA record with 69 assists. Finally, Northwestern has a team that can truly use the word ‘dynasty.’
