Ex-Congressman, singer to speak at NU on April 21
Former U.S. Rep. Richard Gephardt and operatic soprano Nancy Gustafson will be the keynote speakers for Northwestern Alumni Association’s “A Day With Northwestern in Evanston” on April 21.
Gustafson, currently in residence at NU’s School of Music, received her master’s degree from the school in 1980. She will speak at 11:30 a.m. Gephardt, Communication ’62, will speak at 2:30 p.m.
Alexis H. Sarkisian, the event’s chairwoman, said the speakers offer a balance between humanities and politics.
The event, now in its 38th year, will also feature 14 seminars and discussions on a wide range of topics, from economics and science to food and wine.
Other speakers include Dr. P. Mona Khana, contributing medical editor to CBS, and Darren Rovell, a sports business reporter for CNBC who was hired by ESPN after graduating from NU.
“I think it’s very important to maintain our purple pride,” Sarkisian said. “It’s a great opportunity for students who are really assertive to get in and network.”
