Students can register their WildCARD for Student Savings Club today from 11 a.m. to 1. p.m. at Norris University Center. Registration is not necessary, but it helps the program alert students of new deals and specials.
Previously, students used their WildCARD for WildCARD Advantage savings and used a separate card for the Student Savings Club. Starting this year, students can just show their WildcCARD at businesses, and they will receive whichever discount is better.
“Since every student has a WildCARD, everyone can take advantage of it,” said Patience Baach, a Weinberg freshman and member of Associated Student Government’s public relations committee. The committee works with the Student Savings Club to promote discounts for NU students.
The Student Savings Club helps NU students to receive discounts at Evanston businesses and national corporations by showing their WildCARD or by printing out coupons from their Web site. Students can get deals at businesses ranging from Papa John’s Pizza in Evanston to Medieval Times in Schaumburg, which offers dinner and jousting.
Though NU has partnered with the organization since 1994, Baach said many students are unaware of the benefits available to them through this program and that the separate savings cards had been difficult to distribute.
Additionally, the Student Savings Club works with ASG to gain insight on which businesses Northwestern students would like to see become part of the program. Every year, ASG compiles a list of businesses that are popular among students and recomends that they be approached to participate in the savings program.
“I’m hoping to get more businesses to participate,” said Baach, “but more importantly, that students know where and how to get it.”
The WildCARD Advantage program offers discounts at most Evanston businesses, including CVS, Giordano’s and various salons, to students who show their WildCARD and ask for the discount. Most discounts are around 10 percent.
Weinberg freshman Nicki Kravis said she would “definitely” register.
“It’s a win-win situation,” Kravis said. “I like to save money when I can.”
