It was a great meet for Paulina Garcia.
It was 2003, and the now-freshman runner from nearby Streamwood came in first place in the Illinois High School Association State Meet as a high school sophomore, setting a state record time of 16:48 that still stands today. Northwestern Cross Country coach Amy Tush was at that meet, and after seeing Garcia run, Tush knew Garcia was a runner who could help out the Wildcats.
