Over the years, Quentin Tarantino has maintained a career full of shock value with provocative hits like “Jackie Brown,” “Pulp Fiction” and “Kill Bill: Vol. 1.” On the newly released “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” DVD, the director shocks again — only this time, it’s far from valuable.
Though the feature itself proves action-packed and incredibly innovative, the extras fail to maintain such quality. It’s a huge let-down when the movie is over, and there’s nothing left to enjoy except one measly deleted scene.
The behind-the-scenes look at the making of “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” doesn’t offer much to compensate for this lack of extra footage. Where are the extra bloody, stylish fight scenes we crave from a Tarantino film?
The only other significant feature is a Chingon performance from the “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” Hollywood premiere. But don’t get excited — it’s nothing special.
And neither is this DVD. The movie itself may have been a blockbuster, but this home release isn’t worth a trip to Blockbuster Video.
So why would Tarantino release such a lackluster DVD? Fan boards are predicting an action-packed two-movie collector’s edition, perhaps from the Criterion Collection. We’ll have to wait and see.
