PLAY MUSIC: In our CD player

Chicago knows a thing of two about long winters and cold weather, so it’s fitting that Scandinavian music has caught on at Northwestern. Here are five bands that bring the icy north nearer.

The Sounds, Living in America

A Blondie-esque band from Sweden, this quintet borrows from the ’80s with a fusion of dance and rock beats. Their songs are catchy, due large in part to lead vocalist Maja Ivarsson’s sharp, growling voice, best heard on the song “Mine for life.”

Sondre Lerche, Faces Down

While this Norwegian singer-songwriter isn’t even old enough to drink in America, his music is the perfect accompaniament to a glass of wine and candlelight dinner. The violin on single, “You Know So Well” is so sweet it will make any heart ache.
