A year after ASG elections yielded six candidates and two uncontested races, nearly 20 students have expressed interest in running for the organization’s four executive board positions in the April 10 elections.
Candidates must file for the positions by March 31, the first week back from Spring Break.
Associated Student Government officials said they hope having more candidates will make the races more competitive.
“Students have a better means to express their opinions if more people run for the positions,” said ASG Rules Chair Bassel Korkor, a member of last year’s election committee. “It will be good for ASG and good for the campus.”
Ten students have already said they will run or are “seriously considering” running, and at least six others said they were “thinking over their options.”

A run for ASG president is being considered by four students, three of whom agreed to discuss their ambitions with The Daily.
The candidate with the most ASG experience, current Executive Vice President Jordan Heinz, said he is “strongly considering” declaring his candidacy for president. Heinz, an Education junior, served on Senate for two years before being elected executive vice president last year.
