for Plex, 1835 Hinman
Spring funding for student groups has ended, but some ASG members still want to make more funds available for students preferably in 10s and 20s.
Senators plan to vote on four bills at tonight’s meeting of the Associated Student Government, including one calling for new ATMs inside of Foster-Walker Complex and 1835 Hinman.
Administrators have not allowed ATMs inside dorms because of safety concerns, according to Director of University Services Brian Peters.
“It worries us greatly,” Peters said. “The safety of students is very much on our minds.”
But Doug Blakely, vice president of the LaSalle Bank’s Evanston Branch, said he has never heard of any difficulties with the indoor ATMs on campus, including the three at Norris University Center.
“They’ve turned out to be pretty safe,” Blakely said, adding that he is meeting with Peters on Friday to discuss adding more machines.
Meanwhile, ASG Treasurer Nick Kacprowski said he hopes senators pass the bill despite the administration’s position, if only to have Senate’s position on the record.
“I’ve always thought it would be safer for the students to have (an ATM) inside,” said Kacprowski, a Plex resident.
Also on tonight’s agenda is a bill pushing for a giant calendar at Norris to publicize student group events.
Former ASG President Steve Spaulding said he co-wrote the bill because he has discussed the idea with administrators but they have not taken action yet.
Student group leaders have expressed frustration with Norris’ new fliering policy this year, limiting groups to three fliers per event.
Spaulding said the calendar at Norris also will promote use of Calendar 2000, the online publicity tool linked from the HereAndNow Web site according to the bill, the calendar will list events already posted on the online calendar.
The bill also states that any student group, recognized or not recognized by ASG, will be able to use the calendar.
