Teen robbed by ETHS students

A group of students who attend Evanston Township High School punched and robbed a 17-year-old Friday, police said.

The teenager, an Evanston resident, was approached by a group of juveniles at 7:45 p.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Darrow Avenue, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

One male in the group punched the teen in the right side of the face and took $20 from his pocket.

The boy told police that the group that attacked him attended ETHS and that they fled into an apartment building in the 1300 block of Darrow Avenue, Dugan said.

Police could neither say how large the group of attackers were, nor whether the teenager attended ETHS.

The resident could only provide the first name of one of the attackers to the police.

Workplace battery leads to arrest

A 33-year-old Chicago resident turned himself in to the police and was charged with battery Monday.

Victor Cano, who works in the kitchen area of a residential care facility on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue, allegedly punched a female coworker in the face Jan. 22 during a dispute about how to properly serve food, Dugan said.

When officers arrived at the scene, Cano had already fled. Officers did not observe any visible injuries on the woman, Dugan said.

Cano came into a police station to speak with detectives about the case Monday. He was subsequently arrested and charged with battery.

Cano is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26.
