Northwestern accepted a record-low 12.9 percent of applicants for the class of 2018.
NU sent out 3,440 acceptance letters Thursday to regular decision applicants, said Christopher Watson, dean of undergraduate admissions. The University received 33,697 applications between the early decision and regular decision deadlines.
The acceptance rate dropped one percentage point from last year’s 13.9 percent.
Watson said the class is the strongest in terms of academic achievements and more diverse than previous years. Students were admitted from all 50 states and nearly 100 countries, he said.
In December, NU accepted a record 930 students who applied early decision. Applications have risen by more than 10,000 since 2007, when NU admitted 27 percent of all applicants.
