It’s hard to imagine a world without fashion. In times of difficulty and disarray, much like we’re currently seeing, fashion serves as a means of expression and protest when words might not encapsulate what one wants to say. It encourages us to look at things from new perspectives that we otherwise may not have considered.
At its core, fashion is integral to identity. Be it accessories, like a bold belt, an eye-catching makeup look or a daring outfit, fashion allows people to express themselves unapologetically.
After an arduous winter, riddled with days of false spring, intense winds and even more intense lock-ins, glimpses of summer are finally on the horizon. So, The Daily’s Summer Style Guide is coming to you at what I hope is the perfect time.
The Daily’s A&E editors and reporters have worked diligently to explore fashion, both on and off Northwestern’s campus, to compile this guide. From lecturers who have created startups to celebrities leading summer fashion trends to the World Cup’s influence on fashion and cultural pride — there is truly a story in this guide for everyone.
I hope this year’s Summer Style Guide encourages you to see fashion as multifaceted and to view the relationship between fashion and society through a different lens.
