An armed robber stole approximately $1,600 from an Aldi store at 2211 Oakton St. on Saturday night.

The suspect – described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighing 165 pounds – approached a cashier as if he were making a purchase before brandishing a handgun, said Evanston Police Department spokesman Perry Polinski.

The cashier said the suspect was wearing a black jacket with white words on the back, and a black scarf and ball cap, Polinski said .

Officers responded to a shot fired call near Northwestern’s campus Sunday night.

The officers searched the area surrounding the 1500 block of Sherman Ave. at approximately 10:40 p.m. but didn’t find any evidence, Polinski said.
