Northwestern was unable to compete at Sunday’s Keystone Classic in Philadelphia because of “flight issues in Chicago,” according to a Tweet from the event’s organizers Sunday morning.

The first major snowstorm of the season hit the Chicago area over the weekend, canceling hundreds of flights at Chicago airports. An NU spokesman confirmed in an email to the Daily that the team’s scheduled flight was canceled.

The meet was supposed to be the season-opener for junior Jason Tsirtsis, the 2014 NCAA Champion, two-time Big Ten champion and the top-ranked wrestler in the nation at 149 pounds. Several of NU’s other top wrestlers were scheduled to compete, including senior Dominick Malone, who has twice qualified for the NCAA tournament at 133 pounds.

The Cats are next scheduled to compete at the Grapple at the Garden in New York next Sunday.
