Northwestern Formula Racing to bring custom-built car to Michigan International Speedway

Edward Cox and Morgan Jackson

Northwestern Formula Racing will travel to Michigan International Speedway where they will compete against up to 120 teams including Big Ten schools from May 14 through May 17. Students designed a race car for the Formula SAE competition, where they will market and test their cars in front of judges. The team will then travel to Barrie, Ontario and compete in Formula North.

This year’s car, NFR 14, is modeled after last year’s car. Teammates hope that an additional two weeks of testing time this year will improve the car’s performance on the racetrack during competition.

The racing team is composed primarily of engineering students. In 2006, five students created the team, which has put out a vehicle every year starting in 2011.
