Third quarter: Northwestern extended its lead to 31-10 with a long drive in the middle of the third quarter against Western Michigan tonight. Senior Kain Colter began the 14-play drive at quarterback, and junior running back Treyvon Green ended it with a rushing touchdown. Colter limped off the field toward the end of the drive and appeared ready to return, but coaches allowed junior Trevor Siemian to finish the job.
Western Michigan responded and drew to within 31-17 after a fumble by senior running back Mike Trumpy. The Broncos scored on a 25-yard pass after taking over at the NU 24-yard line.
Fourth quarter: NU went back to Green for another score on its next drive. The junior scored on a 42-yard jaunt, one play after Colter ran for 23 yards on third down. The touchdown put the Wildcats ahead 38-17 with 14 minutes and 27 seconds left in the game.
The two teams held serve for the rest of the quarter, and the Cats came away with the 38-17 win. Green paved the way for victory, finishing with 158 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns.
