Northwestern put its late-game demons to rest today with a 23-20 win over Michigan State.

The Wildcats forced four consecutive incompletions on the Spartans’ last drive of the fourth quarter to preserve the victory. NU held four different leads in the contest but managed to hold onto the one that mattered most. Still, Michigan State fought back to tie the game twice.

Freshman superback Dan Vitale led NU with nine catches for 110 yards and sophomore quarterback Trevor Siemian led the Cats down the field twice in the second half to lock up the win.

Michigan State had four turnovers, including an interception that NU senior linebacker David Nwabuisi took back 43 yards for a touchdown. NU, however, did not score on any of the Spartans’ three other turnovers.
