Law students win first at National Trial Competition

A team of students from Northwestern’s School of Law won first place in the Midwest Regional Finals of the National Trial Competition last week.

“It’s always tough to win a competition so no one can ever expect it,” said Prof. Steven Lubet, School of Law faculty advisor to the trial team. “We have a very strong tradition and a very good team.”

Established in 1975, the National Trial Competition is organized by the Texas Young Lawyers Association, according to the organization’s Web site.

Lubet said this year was the first time NU won the competition since 2002, when the team also won first place at the national finals, according to the Web site.

“The students prepared endlessly: sometimes six and eight hours a day, ” Lubet said. “They worked as hard as any athlete. It’s always good to be number one.”
