Want to ring in autumn 2005 with some wiener schnitzel, sauerkraut and Bavarian pretzels?

You’re not the only one. Oktoberfest is in full swing, and today marks the first day of fall. The popular German celebration originally commemorated an 1810 royal wedding, but Oktoberfest has made its way to many parts of Chicago.

From Lincoln Park restaurants to Catholic churches throughout the city, Oktoberfest is taking over. Here’s a look at some of the best and better-known events available this year in the Chicago area.

Oktoberfest at the Green at Grant Park

This outdoor celebration at Grant Park, 352 E. Monroe St., offers inexpensive drafts of the most popular German beers and free live rock and oompah bands on the weekends. All other activities are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
