On Wednesday, Evanston’s Second Baptist Church hosted a vigil for the victims of Sunday’s mass shooting in Orlando, Florida. Over 300 people were present at the event organized by the church’s Rev. Dr. Michael Nabors and Rabbi Andrea London from Beth Emet Synagogue. Representatives from Evanston organizations and clergy from various faith communities offered thoughts and prayer. Throughout the event, speakers encouraged people to recognize hateful forces in our country, such as homophobia and racism, and extend love to one another instead. It was both a mournful and hopeful night, after which, attendees left the church lighting candles in remembrance of the victims.
